Chamonix - Activities

Sitting at the foot of Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc, iconic Chamonix has long been the home of Alpine activities in Europe. Chamonix boasts a huge range of attractions whatever you are looking for in a mountain break, with almost 50 activities to choose from and an abundance of shops and restaurants in and around the resort centre. As well as being a fantastic resort for all your outdoor pursuits needs, Chamonix can just as easily be enjoyed for it’s magnificent situation and landscapes by those searching for a more relaxing holiday. Chamonix is just over one hour from Geneva making it ideal for those keen to keep travel times to a minimum or those looking for a short break in the mountains.

Walking and hiking

There are almost 350km of walking trails in the Chamonix valley which allow all visitors, regardless of age, ability or fitness level, to enjoy the area from all levels. There are paths going from the valley floor at resort level or you can make use of the lift system to take you to higher altitude where you can enjoy the other activities on offer. More information and walking trail maps are available locally at the tourist office.

Mountain biking

Chamonix offers a variety of trails for all abilities of rider, including the 30km Le Tour trail. At the top of the valley on the Balme area, a downhill run is reserved exclusively for bikers, whilst a second is being prepared for an exciting descent from Les Posettes to Vallorcine.

Golf

Open from May through until November, weather dependent earlier in the season, Chamonix is home to a par 72 course, some restrictions apply during peak season.
