Located just over an hour from Grenoble, Alpe d'Huez basks in 300 days of sunshine a year making it perfect for a summer Alpine break. Long associated with the Tour de France, in the form of the dizzying 21 hair-pin road up the mountain, Alpe d'Huez has lots to offer thrill seekers and families alike.
Alpe d’Huez has a fantastic lift network for access to hiking and mountain biking trails. There are more than 140 miles of marked routes ranging from gentle ones for the family to the more difficult for advanced mountaineers. There are some 12 mountain lakes within walking distance of the resort, which make for brilliant lunch time picnic spots.
Alpine traditions still remain in the neighbouring villages of Auris-en-Oisans, Huez-en-Oisans, La Garde, Oz-en-Oisans and Vaujany and the history of mountain dwellers can be explored in these delightful, historical hamlets.
